August 10: Each Part Does Its Work

TODAY'S BIBLE READING:

Bible Reading by Josh Moody Today’s Bible Reading: Nehemiah 3Proverbs 10:1-16Luke 16:10-181 Timothy 6:11-21 Nehemiah 3:

This chapter lists all the teamwork that comes into play, the various groups of people as they now build as Nehemiah had led them to do. It takes every part of the body to do its task.

Reading 1 Corinthians 12:12-20, we find the same principle at work:

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.

“For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.”

Each member of the body is necessary.

Similarly, in Ephesians 4:15-16: “…we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” When each part is working properly, connecting together, loving each other, centered around biblical teaching, then the church is edified and flourishes. Do not then think that your part in the church of God is insignificant, or that it matters little whether you are involved each week. Each and every part is essential, just as a foot and an eye are essential to the good working of a body. To receive God Centered Bible devotionals directly in your inbox, sign up here.]]>
