ChurchFolk: Songs of Death and Resurrection, Part 2

Erik Dewar, pastoral resident for worship and music, and Ruth Newby, ministry associate in worship and music, at College Church in Wheaton recently wrote about the ChurchFolk project and their first two songs for Good Friday and Easter. Today, they join God Centered Life again to tell us about the last two "Songs of Death and Resurrection" as we prepare for Good Friday and Easter.  The last two hymns for Songs of Death & Resurrection are here! We arranged these two specifically with Good Friday and Easter in mind. May our hearts cry, “What wondrous love is this?” as we reflect on Jesus’ redeeming work this Holy Week. ChurchFolk: Songs of Death and Resurrection

God Centered Life is pleased to welcome Erik Dewar, pastoral resident for worship and music, and Ruth Newby, ministry associate in worship and music, at College Church in Wheaton. Late last year, the ChurchFolk project began with 4 objectives: •To arrange well-known hymns as well as original lyrics and melodies in a folk style around specific holidays and seasons. •To gather musicians in the church to worship as we create and record arrangments together. •To reach out to family, friends and neighbors during the seasons/holidays with the recordings and videos. •To provide the sheet music from our arrangements for other churches to use in worship. Good Friday and Easter The season leading up to Good Friday and Easter is a wonderful time to reflect on Christ's death and resurrection. It is a time like no other. Churches hold multiple special services each year around the world. Believers and unbelievers alike are invited to join in the drama of the...

Workshop on Biblical Exposition April 27-29, 2016

The Workshop on Biblical Exposition at College Church in Wheaton is April 27-29, 2016. The Workshop is sponsored by The Charles Simeon Trust, and the focus this year will be on Preaching from 2 Timothy. What is a Workshop on Biblical Exposition? The Simeon Trust describes it like this: The Workshops on Biblical Exposition aim to recover the centrality of God’s Word, preached expositionally, to the benefit of the life and health of the church in our generation. In order for this kind of preaching to take place, the Bible must be properly understood and rightly handled. And so, this Workshop consists of two and a half days covering principles of exposition (instructional talks on how to better handle biblical texts), small group practice (times when you will share and receive feedback on two passages you prepared in advance), and preaching (encouraging times of exposition). Each of these sessions is carefully designed to be interrelated for the greatest value in improving...
