A Thanksgiving Prayer from Dr. Wendell Hawley

November 22, 2021

Holy God, our Redeemer,
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation,
in your Word spoken through the prophets,
and in the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ,
whom you sent to be the Savior and Redeemer of mankind.
In him you have delivered us from evil and have brought us out of error into truth,
out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

Blessed Savior, when we reflect on our past days, we see in every circumstance your providential hand . . . always extended with love.
So whatever difficulty we currently face, we give you thanks.
Thank you for protective shelter, sufficient food, adequate clothing, loving family, meaningful friendships.
All of these make our lives full, and we are grateful.
And so with your servant David we pray,
“I am overwhelmed by how much you have done for me.”

Our prayer today comes from Dr. Wendell Hawley (LL.D., California Graduate School of Theology; D.D., Western Baptist Seminary). Dr. Hawley has preached and taught the Bible for over forty years, has served on the pastoral staff at College Church in Wheaton, and is the author of A Pastor Prays for His People (Tyndale, 2010), which includes this prayer.
