TODAY'S BIBLE READING:
In this first month of relaunching God Centered Life Ministries (GCL), we have been attempting to introduce you to our ministry as a whole. Through articles from our council and resources defining the passion, vision, and mission of GCL, I hope that you are beginning to get a small taste of the basic core of who we are. Today, I want to conclude this journey of introduction by taking time to explain in detail what it is we practically do as a ministry and the reasons behind what we do, all in an effort to live out our passion, vision, and mission. To begin, I believe that what makes us unique at GCL from other non-profit Christian ministries is our commitment to reminding our brothers and sisters in Christ of the core vision that we are to have as followers of Christ. Namely, the vision of living lives that are God-centered. How we are going to go about doing what it is we have been called to as a ministry? Just like teammates must constantly remind one another how to practically pursue a coach’s vision for the team, I am now seeking to communicate to you all how it is that GCL intends to practically pursue the vision that the Lord has put before us. In short, two broad categories define our practice as a ministry – resources and conferences. First of all, as a ministry we are going to pursue the vision of a generation living lives centered upon God by producing substantive, accessible, and relevant resources that can be found primarily on our website and app. As a result of our young adult target audience (18 to 30-year-olds) as well as our mission of engaging culture, training churches, and reaching colleges, we have determined that resources must be compact but with depth, and simple but with profundity. At GCL, we are not attempting to provide resources that take an hour to read. While that type of resource is absolutely critical and needed, we have determined that we are going to prayerfully, Lord-willingly, produce resources that take ten minutes to read but perhaps an hour to digest. We want you to be able to read or listen to any resource on our website or app and be edified, equipped, and enabled to better live the God-centered life. In addition to the practice of providing resources primarily through our website and app, we are also going to pursue a generation living for God by providing conferences. Most people who know of GCL in the future may likely associate our practice of conferences with our national conference. The first is coming in March 2017 (visit godcenteredlife.org/conference to learn more and to register). However, it is important to clarify that, just as the resources category is broad, so too the conferences category is meant to be broad enough to envelop several different types of conferences and events. At GCL, we believe that broad categorical clarity can lead to wonderful categorical creativity. We want our conferences to be events that our ministry family can all come to together in order to be refreshed and recalled back to the vision of living a life that is centered upon God. In closing, it is absolutely foundational to remember that, while it is critical to know our practices as a ministry, we are going to go nowhere unless we have our eyes fixed on Christ alone. Resources and conferences are helpful tools that indeed sharpen us as we pursue the vision of living God-centered lives. However, unless Christ is at the core of everything that we do, then nothing that GCL does will be of benefit and edification to the body of believers. In Hebrews 12:1-2, the author says,
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfector of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endure the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”May we at God Centered Life Ministries be defined as a ministry that runs the race and pursues the vision by keeping our eyes firmly fixed on Jesus Christ, the one who we are ultimately called to follow, center our lives upon, and worship in all that we do. I am eager to see how the Lord uses our efforts to practically pursue this vision in the days, weeks, months, and years to come. Join us!
