Jesus is the only way to God. This is our claim because it is the Bible’s claim. But for many, this statement seems impossibly narrow. With all the other religions in the world, can we really claim that Jesus is the only way to God? Actually, we can.

Bottom line, our culture misunderstands the assertion that Jesus is the only way to God because people really don't know the Bible's story. They have lost the narrative of what it says. But it truly is the story of the lost being rescued.

Let me illustrate this. Imagine you decide to go fishing on a spit of land sticking out into the ocean. You're having such a good time that you fail to notice that the tide has come in. Now you’re stuck out on a rock and the way back to the shore has disappeared. The tide continues to rise and soon you're in mortal danger.

When a lifeguard’s boat appears near the rock where you're sitting, you call out, “How can I get back to shore?" The lifeguard says, "I am the way." Why does he make this claim? Because you've got to get in his boat so he can rescue you. There is no other route to safety. He will save you or you will perish.

Likewise, when Jesus says, “I am the way,” he is saying he's your rescuer. It's the mercy and the rescue from death and hell that we need. He took our penalty of death and He experienced our hell, that we might live.

Jesus is the only way to God because he is God. What wonderful news! We have a rescuer.  Now, let me ask, will you help us share this message? I’d like to invite you to join us our mission to bring hope to a desperate and perishing world.
