John 1:29-34: Behold the Lamb of God
Jeremiah 5-6, Ecclesiastes 2:17-26, John 1:29-34, James 1:19-27
[Note: As we go through John’s Gospel together over the next few weeks, I will refer you to fuller comments in my commentary on John’s Gospel, as well as the Bible study guide.]
Take, then, and read a full analysis of this section of John, and instead this morning simply reflect on the following bullet points:
- What are you “beholding”/staring at/longing for/focusing on? What are your goals, ambitions, and desires? What is your “vision”? John the Baptist urges us to “behold” the Lamb of God. Make a conscious effort this morning to turn your focus and attention to Christ!
- Why does John the Baptist urge us to behold the Lamb of God? What does the Lamb of God do? What does this say about who we are? What does this say about the kind of teaching and preaching that we should be listening to and supporting? Is our ministry focused on the Lamb of God who—through his sacrificial death on the cross for our sin—takes away the sin of the world?
- John saw and bore witness that Christ was the Son of God. How could you make an especial effort today to reevaluate your priorities in order to bear witness, to tell people about the Son of God?
