John 2:1-11:

Note: As we go through John’s Gospel together over the next few weeks, I refer you to fuller comments in my commentary on John’s Gospel, as well as the Bible study guide. Take, then, and read a full analysis of this section of John, and this morning simply reflect on the following bullet points:

  • Wine is a symbol of joy in the Old Testament. Does such joy characterize your relationship with God?
  • Some people say Jesus could not have turned water into wine because that is impossible. How would you answer that challenge?
  • Why do you think Jesus’ mother told the servants to do what Jesus told them to do (rather than what she told them to do)? Is it comforting to think of Jesus correcting his mother (“What does this have to do with me”)?
  • What could we do in regard to our relationship with God to experience more of this “house of wine” that is the blessing of the Messianic age and the gospel of Jesus Christ?
