October 11, 2017: Never Be Thirsty Again
October 11, 2017
TODAY'S BIBLE READING:
Today’s Bible Reading: Jeremiah 26-29, Ecclesiastes 8, John 4:1-14, James 5:7-12 John 4:1-14: Note: As we go through John’s Gospel together over the next few weeks, I refer you to fuller comments in my recently published commentary on John’s Gospel, as well as the recently published Bible study guide. In addition, at College Church we are currently working our way through John’s Gospel on Sunday mornings, and that will provide you with another take on the material. Take, then, and read a full analysis of this section of John, and this morning simply reflect on the following bullet points:
- What do we learn from Jesus’ request for help (“give me water”) as an introduction to an evangelistic conversation? Does this reset the potential power dynamic in such a way that there might be openness hear the good news?
- Are we willing to talk to the “Samaritans” of our day and share with them the good news of Jesus?
- Have you experienced that water of life, that if you drink from it you will never be thirsty again?
- How does this call us to seek our greatest satisfaction in none other than Christ himself?
