Is Scripture authoritative? Can we trust Scripture as the very words of God Almighty? These are questions that God’s people have wrestled with from the beginning, and are questions that are extremely relevant in today’s skeptical Western culture. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 declares, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” Scripture itself makes the declaration that it is authored ultimately by God himself and that as a result, it is useful for all areas of life in order that the follower of Christ might be completely prepared to serve God. However, there are many skeptics both in the church and outside the church today that would argue that certain parts of Scripture should not be in the canon, that there are authorial integrity issues in certain books of the Bible, and even that the Bible as we know it is nothing more than an historical artifact to be used to study the wonderfully rich history of the world. Scripture as an authoritative ground for Christian living is under attack, not just from outside of the church, but also from the inside. As a result, the assurance that Scripture is most definitely the authoritative word of God that guides us in our pursuit of Christ is essential for today’s church to address with confidence and boldness. leonardo pete-williamsOn Sunday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. we encourage you to attend College Church’s Sunday evening service where Dr. Josh Moody (Senior Pastor, College Church in Wheaton), will be discussing this very topic with Dr. Peter Williams (Warden of Tyndale House, Cambridge), and Dr. Leonardo De Chirico (Pastor of Breccia di Roma and Director of Reformanda Initiative, Rome, Italy) will be having a discussion addressing this very topic. Please be sure to join us on Sunday, September 25 to learn more from these significant international scholars and Christian leaders about why Scripture is authoritative, why it matters practically in the life of the believer, and why therefore we can have confidence to live the Christian life according to what Scripture teaches.]]>
