The book of Philemon is a masterpiece of persuasion. Paul appeals to the readers, which is always better for gaining internal transformation rather than getting begrudging cooperation with what you have told them to do. The end point of his appeal is something of real, social, practical implication. The gospel must have that kind of impact in our world today, too.
